Echo has a broken heart. A gutted-from-the-inside, cut-off-your-toes broken heart. Help is just a phone call away, but he opts for a Classical (feral) form of revenge and steals his ex boyfriend’s dog.

‘Play Dead’ is a darkly comic new play with a queer, unruly take on Ovid’s myth of Echo and Narcissus. Featuring a live built, volatile soundscape, what begins as a confessional comedy unravels into a mythic confrontation with addiction and obsession. 

This is the Fringe debut of Betyl Theatre, an international company who make work at the intersection of the classical and the contemporary, often in unorthodox environments – barns, former frat houses, outdoor showers and now, a dog crate.
